Yolande is expecting a baby boy soon, and I made this cake for her baby shower.
Cake flavors:
Top – almond cake with raspberry filling and almond buttercream
Bottom – vanilla cake with vanilla custard filling and vanilla buttercream
I iced both cakes in their respective buttercream flavors and then I did the final thin coat of buttercream in blue vanilla. Why? to make sure the buttercream color was the exact same on the top and bottom tiers. Even with perfect measurements, there’s no guarantee that the color would match, so I mixed it all in one batch.
All of the accents were made from fondant, even the 3-D lion on top. I used a milkshake straw as my central support and built everything else around that. To get the rounded edges on the 2-D animals I placed plastic wrap over my fondant and then cut the shapes out. Bonus: those cutters don’t get dirty!
