Shannon ordered this hilarious Yoda cake for her boyfriend’s birthday.
Cake Flavor: vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream
I iced the cake in vanilla buttercream and then airbrushed it black. I prefer to do it that way so people eating the cake don’t have funky colored mouths. I made the “Star Wars” letters in advance and dried them on a foam dummy so they’d have a little curve to them. I added fondant stars and some non-pareils to make it look like a starry night.
To make the light sabers, I just rolled two tubes of fondant (one red, one blue) and let them dry over night. The next day, I added the grey handle and gave it a little texture.
Using a milkshake straw, I made Yoda’s little body and head and let it dry over night. Then I added his ears and the rest of his facial features. I put on his shawl, and then made his arms out of the same color. While the arms were still soft, I placed his hands, which were just 2 balls of fondant.
“May the 40th be with you!”
