This taco cake was a huge hit!
Cake Flavor: vanilla
I started by leveling and stacking a 10″ cake and chilled it well. I cut about 1/3 of it off and flipped it onto its side.
I gave the entire cake a crumb coat, and then added a final coat of yellow buttercream to the sides of the cake to make the taco “shell.”
The “meat” of my cake was made from crushed Oreos. I used green buttercream in a bag fitted with Tip #67 to make the “lettuce.” I greased the inside of a 1 tsp measuring spoon with shortening and then pressed red fondant into to to make the “tomatoes.” I added a few white non-pareils to give the appearance of seeds. Finally, I took some orange modeling chocolate and grated it over the top of the cake to look like “cheese.”
Pro Tip: make sure your modeling chocolate is cold before you try to grate it.
