Kids are still obsessed with the movie, Frozen. I must admit, I haven’t seen it, but I didn’t want to pull my hair out when they wouldn’t stop playing that song on the radio.
Cake Flavor: chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream
I leveled, stacked, and crumb coated the cake. I used a combination of sky blue and delphinium blue and mixed the lightest color first. I iced the whole cake one more time using this light blue color. I fitted a piping bag with Tip #104 and filled it with the lightest color. Starting at the top edge of the cake, I pointed the wider end of the tip down and start piping the ruffle around the cake using even pressure. I made 1-2 ruffles in this color, and then made my icing one shade darker, and repeated the whole process until I reached the cake base.
I used a PME plunger cutter to make the snowflakes out of fondant. I let them dry before attaching them to the cake. I like that this cake is just a nod to Frozen and isn’t overly cutesy.
