According to Wikipedia, Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces patterns on fabric. Lauren presented me with an idea of trying to mimic the shibori technique on a cake, and I just love how it turned out.
Cake Flavors:
Top: lemon cake with lemon buttercream
Bottom: vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream
I iced both cakes in vanilla buttercream, doweled, stacked and chilled them well. I couldn’t find an indigo cake color, so I made my own. I love how it turned out but completely forgot to note what colors I used to achieve the look. Whoops! I mixed dry dusts together and then added some vodka to make it the same consistency as paint. I started small and slowly added color until I had a look that I really liked.
Here’s my trick for adding succulents to cake: carefully cut the root to be flush with the back of the plant. Clean the back of each one, removing any remaining soil. Cut a small square/circle of plastic wrap large enough to cover the the back of the succulent, but not so large that you can see it from the front side. Insert a toothpick through through the plastic wrap and into what’s left of the root. The toothpick will help hold the succulent in place.
