I am in love with this theme of “Twotti Fruitti” and am thrilled with how the cake turned out.
Top tier – lemon cake with lemon buttercream buttercream
Bottom tier – strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream
I made all of the fondant fruit pieces in advance and just kind of winged it.
I iced the top tier in yellow buttercream and then used the same yellow color to pipe on the pineapple pattern.
I colored pink, light green, and medium green for the watermelon tier. I used piping bag to pip the buttercream onto the cake. I used 3 rings for the medium green and one for the lighter green. I covered the rest in the pink. I used my bench scraper to smooth the sides of the cake and my off-set spatula to smooth the top. Once I was pleased with the look, I made small balls of black fondant as the “seeds” for the watermelon.
