I just love how the gold texture turned out on the top tier of this 30th birthday cake!
And to be 100% honest, it was SUPER easy! I just textured the buttercream with my offset spatula, chilled the cake until the buttercream was firm to the touch and then painted it using Rolkem gold mixed with vodka.
For the ruffles, I tried something new this time. Normally, I would cover the whole cake in fondant and then add the ruffles. This time, I just covered the top and then attached the ruffles directly to the buttercream. It worked like a charm, and there weren’t 2 layers of fondant to bite through!
