I set this cake up, took a couple of photos, thanked the venue staff/other vendors and started wheeling my cart back to the elevator. As I was waiting in the hall, I heard a staff member say, “That’s not your grandma’s cake. It’s a new, fancy kind of cake.” Y’all, it totally caught me off guard and I could barely hold in the giggles.
What do you think? Would your grandma have been bold enough to have a black wedding cake? Mine wouldn’t!
And I know you’re probably thinking that all of that black buttercream must taste bad. Wrong! I ice all of my cakes in white buttercream and only do the final coat of buttercream in color. So there’s only a thin layer of colored buttercream, not a thick slab of it. Plus, my black buttercream has a bit of cocoa in it — that helps me get the dark color without a ton of gel food color.
